The Sturgeon New Moon is named for when the sturgeon were easiest to catch in the Great Lakes. The word sturgeon means “stirrer” because these fish tend to spend their time at the bottom of the lake, stirring up the mud and looking for food. We can use this stirring energy as medicine by leaning into stuck emotions that have come up from the mud and meet them with tenderness. Let’s lean into the new moon with compassion as we cool off the summer’s heat in a ritual of rest.
At this gathering, we will align with the energy of this full moon as a community by weaving the themes into a practice of qi gong, Yin Yoga, and Restorative Yoga. Moon rituals are a magical way to connect with the natural cycles of life and nature. Full moons are a great way to honor our own fullness and wholeness as humans while we receive the wisdom from our Grandmother Moon. Let's honor and release what is no longer serving us to make space for what comes next.
Feel free to bring a meaningful item to place on the Moon altar for tonight’s practice. It could be a crystal, a picture, a piece of jewelry, really whatever! Maybe something that inspires aspects of the Sturgeon Moon or something that honors the fullness and wholeness of you and this human experience. No previous yoga experience required.
