The December Cold Moon celebrates a full celestial cycle before we begin to move towards a time of greater light with the winter solstice. It acknowledges that the frigid cold of winter has fully set in and now is the time to embrace greater rest and the blessing to bring our bodies and minds into alignment with the natural realm. This cold moon is a guide informing us to slow down and be fully present in our joy and what we have cultivated this cycle.
Moon rituals are a magical way to connect with the natural cycles of life and nature. New moons remind us to check in with the parts of ourselves that are expanding and the areas of our lives that are experiencing new beginnings. In yogic philosophy, one big obstacle to letting go of suffering is what lives in our unconsciousness. As the new moon begins in darkness, we can use breath, Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra to explore the parts of us that are in the shadows to bring us into our own light.
Feel free to bring a meaningful item to place on the Moon altar for tonight’s practice. It could be a crystal, a picture, a piece of jewelry, really whatever! Maybe something that inspires aspects of the Buck Moon or something that honors the fullness and wholeness of you and this human experience. No previous yoga experience required.
