Moon rituals are a magical way to connect with the natural cycles of life and nature. New moons remind us to check in with the parts of ourselves that are expanding and the areas of our lives that are experiencing new beginnings. In yogic philosophy, one big obstacle to letting go of suffering is what lives in our unconsciousness. As the new moon begins in darkness, we can use Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra to explore the parts of us that are in the shadows to bring us into our own light.
Symbolically, the new Hunter’s Moon represents transition, prosperity, fulfillment, and preparation. The animals and the humans are preparing for a drop in the temperatures and receiving invitations to begin to turn our attention inward. Farmers are harvesting their crops. Animals are gathering nuts and seeds to store for the winter. Game is fat and easy for hunters to spot in the cleared fields. Although many of us may not be participating in hunting our own food, it is a time to gather what we need so we can go retreat during the coming months. Let’s practice retreating in the darkness of the new moon with a ritual of rest and setting intentions as we transition into the soon-to-come season of hibernation!
