Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra for Deep Listening: An Experience in Observing your Breath, Body and Mind with Carrie Dennison and Danica Warden

Sink into a nourishing self-care practice with Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra. The focus of the practice is bringing support to the body in order to access breath so that the mind can find a state of ease. This practice allows us to find safety and security within ourselves rather than fully relying on external factors. Carrie will guide you through a few restorative shapes and set you up for a 30 minute super-supported savasana with a Yoga Nidra guided meditation led by Danica. This is an event for everybody to experience, no prior knowledge of yoga necessary to enjoy the benefits.

During this passive practice, you may find yourself in a meditative state where your body is completely relaxed but your mind is still aware. The postures done in this class are simple and held for long periods of time with the support of yoga blankets, bolsters and blocks. Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation which deeply relaxes the body. It starts with a prolonged body scan to release tension which is being held in the body. The practice continues with a guided visualization for healing of the heart, head and body. Often affirmations are used to reinforce the healing.

Props will be available for use at the studio or you can bring your own. You will need 1 regular sized yoga bolsters (smaller ones will not work for this practice), 5 blankets or large towels, and 3 yoga blocks. Bring an eye pillow or a wash cloth to cover your eyes for deeper relaxation. Reach out to selfcarewithcarrie@gmail.com with any questions about props.

Surrendering into Stillness: A Full Moon Restorative Yoga & Acupuncture Event

"The answers you seek never come when the mind is busy, they come when the mind is still." - Unknown

During this event, Restorative Yoga is paired with acupuncture to provide a space to restore and relax. This calming yoga practice offers a gentle approach to releasing stress and tension - physical tension from how we move about our lives, emotional tension from how we hold our stories, and energetic tension. You will be guided through a series of long-held restorative postures supported with bolsters, blankets, and all things comfy. Sinking into breath and body, you’ll find peace and an overall sense of relaxation. You will be guided into a deep relaxation offering a meditative experience while you consciously rest in stillness.

The winter is cold and dark.  We are urged by nature to surrender to this time of stillness and pause. The full moon is a time for release.  Both nature and cosmos whisper to us “Release...Surrender.” Are you listening? Together, let us give acknowledgement to the season of winter before we move into spring.

Participants will receive treatment on the heart and kidney channels. The heart holds our spirit of this lifetime, the kidneys hold our spirit of all generations and lifetimes. Marrying the two creates an honoring of who we are at our deepest levels.  Acknowledging self in the stillness, before springing into action.  Come, honor yourself.  You are nature.

This 3 hour experience includes:

  • Intro to Acupuncture

  • 90 min Restorative Yoga

  • 30 min Savasana with Acupuncture

  • Guided Meditation

  • Experiential Harvest/Question & answer period

Restore into the New Year: A Heart-Focused Practice with Ani Binkley and Carrie Dennison

Restore into the New Year: A Heart-Focused Practice with Ani Binkley and Carrie Dennison

A common practice in the new year is to set a resolution, or a specific goal for the new year ahead. The problem with New Year's resolutions is that they arise from the belief that we need to do something to improve ourselves or our lives; that somehow we are not enough just as we are and that our happiness is tied to attaining something we don't already have.

The yogic tradition offers a refreshing alternative to the New Year's resolution: the practice of sankalpa, or connecting with the true desire of the heart. A sankalpa practice begins from the premise that you are already whole, and that all you need to do is learn to listen to the quiet inner voice that resides in the heart and connects us to our true essence.

This New Year's Day, join Roots & River Yoga teachers, Ani and Carrie for a sankalpa practice that will focus on relaxing into being. Through restorative yoga we come to know ourselves in the purest sense away from the need to incessantly "do" or accomplish or achieve. We connect with the human "being" rather than the human "doing" we often confuse ourselves with, which allows us to connect with a deeper wisdom. Through restorative postures, guided breathwork and meditation, and through sound bath, participants will be guided to connect with and listen to the subtle wisdom and guidance of the heart to set a focus and intention for the new year. This helps shape and determine how we show up in our lives and what action we take in the year to come in accordance with our truest desires.

Participants will leave relaxed and refreshed with tools to navigate the new year with calm clarity and connection to their inner guidance. Come ready to relax and connect to the wisdom of the heart!

Cost: $35

Begin with Peace: A New Year's Practice

This two hour workshop is sure to help you stretch, strengthen and rest in order to revitalize your body and mind for a positive year ahead. The emphasis is on taking time to explore what you want.
We will move through a #DOPEYOGA to prepare the body for stillness. You will have the space to dive deep into yourself, which is the study of svadyaha — being still in meditation and simply stopping what you are doing to realize who you are and what forces are at work, what are the ones you have no control of and which you imagine that you do but you really don’t.

The workshop will include an hour of invigorating Dope Yoga led by Danica Warden and an hour of a Restorative Yoga practice led by Carrie Dennison. There will also be time allotted for journaling and self-reflection.

Cost: $30
